A repost highlights Ben Cera’s episode about how renting GPUs and switching to open-weight models cut an AI bill from about $1.2M per month to roughly $100K.
The story: the product spent four months paying frontier-model prices while Polsia grew from 500 users to 5,000 paying customers, then spent about two months reconfiguring the stack on rented GPUs. June came in at around $100K, and the episode also takes viewers inside the data center where the racks sit.
The most important detail is that the economics only worked because most users were asking for simple tasks on simple codebases. In other words, the workload did not require the most expensive model available.
