Scientific ideas diffuse quickly through papers, open source, and researcher mobility, but the ability to run 10x larger training runs, collect 10x more RL experience, and serve billions of inference tokens is far harder to replicate because it depends on GPUs, power, networking, cooling, land, permits, and massive capital.
The poster adds a wry comment about worries that Microsoft may cut capex, implying that compute spending remains central to frontier AI competition.
