LocalStudio: A 100% Open-Source Browser-Based AI Slide Builder
nicodotdev · x · 2026-07-28
Developer Erick Wendel launched LocalStudio, an AI-first presentation tool designed as an alternative to Canva, Apple Keynote, and Google Slides.
Key Features:
- Runs entirely in the browser with no backend
- 100% open-source
- Integrates local AI via WebGPU, supporting in-browser image generation
- Allows importing existing .pptx files for further editing
The developer noted that the project took about 55 hours of coding sessions, consumed over 1 billion tokens, and utilized parallel Git worktrees. It was built to solve his own pain points from years of preparing presentation slides for talks.
