Addressing recent rumors about US investigations into Chinese AI firms accessing chips, the author clarified the facts and current status.
Established Facts: The US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has opened an investigation into how Chinese AI companies obtain US chips. Moonshot's Fable 5 service was indeed suspended from June 12 to July 1.
Unproven Allegations: While OSTP made accusations on X and Treasury floated sanctions and Entity List designation, no formal sanctions have been filed, Moonshot is not on the Entity List, and no public evidence supports the claims of using banned chips or distilling Anthropic's models. Separately, Kimi K3 weights were officially released today.
