AI agents may lose to UIs on repetitive work, but win on novel tasks

The author argues that AI agents are being overestimated for repetitive work. For one-off tasks with lots of variation, agents are great; for repetitive tasks, users still want a fast, stable UI and deterministic code.
The likely long-term split is a return to the mean: UIs and deterministic systems handle the repeatable parts of daily work, while LLMs handle exploratory and novel tasks that have not yet been codified.
