A four-level framework breaks AI agents down from chatbots to multi-agent systems

The post lays out a four-level “AI agent architecture” ladder:
- Level 1: a standalone LLM/chatbot.
- Level 2: an LLM connected to tools such as calculators, code interpreters, search, and other utilities.
- Level 3: a ReAct-style system with memory, planning, reflection, self-critique, and chain-of-thought-like execution.
- Level 4: multiple Level-3 agents collaborating and communicating with one another.
It also argues that in high-stakes domains like healthcare and finance, agents should include human-in-the-loop review and guardrails to stay accurate and safe.
