mcpward catches MCP tool drift in CI before agents break

mcpward is a new CI tool that snapshots an MCP server’s tool surface and fails builds when descriptions, schemas, or capabilities drift.
It checks whether tool descriptions changed, required schema fields were added, readOnlyHint flipped, or tools disappeared altogether. The author says it also validates protocol compliance, the protocol-error vs isError contract, and latency budgets, with console, JSON, JUnit, and SARIF output. The post notes that Invariant’s mcp-scan already does rug-pull detection and is more mature, while mcpward is designed as an offline CI gate.
