Math may be more vulnerable to automation than many people think, says Rex Douglass

The author says that after speaking with mathematicians about what it would mean for LLMs to help or hurt the field, he now thinks mathematics may be more vulnerable to automation than expected.
His argument is that mathematicians are still, in practice, “just people,” and if AI can remove even a small amount of human friction from the process, progress could speed up significantly.
