A post argues AI firms could make humans economically and then existentially irrelevant

A reply to Elon Musk quotes his view that the intelligence gap between AI and humans could become larger than the gap between humans and chimpanzees, with the implication that humanity should expect a future of extreme abundance unless catastrophe intervenes. The attached slide argues the opposite of the usual “Santa Claus is coming to town” optimism: it lays out a progression from AI assisting humans, to replacing operational decisions, to strategic leadership, to fully autonomous AI firms, and ultimately to AI-to-AI economies that leave humans economically irrelevant and then existentially irrelevant.
