The author argues that this happens because models are optimized to be helpful, not truthful; once a false detail appears in context, the model keeps building on it; and the system predicts what sounds plausible instead of checking reality.
The conclusion is blunt: LLMs can produce elegant, confident lies that look like genuine research, which is exactly why they should not be treated like search engines.
