Jacob Tsimerman argues that mathematical problem-solving is such a pervasive part of modern research that if AIs become substantially better at it, human mathematicians will need to spend most of their time on something quite different.

He says the key question is not whether AI can help with math, but whether a new kind of mathematical activity would still be viable once human-style problem solving is no longer central.
