Project N.O.M.A.D. packages offline Wikipedia, local AI, maps and classrooms into one Debian box

Project N.O.M.A.D. is an offline-first knowledge and education server that runs on a Debian machine and exposes everything through a browser on port 8080 after a one-time internet-connected install.
It bundles six on-box components:
- Full Wikipedia, Project Gutenberg, medical references, and repair manuals
- Local AI for file Q&A via Ollama and Qdrant, with support for LM Studio or llama.cpp
- Kolibri-powered education content with progress tracking and multi-user support
- Offline maps via ProtoMaps regional downloads
- No built-in telemetry, just one outbound connectivity check that can be repointed or disabled
The project is open source under Apache 2.0, built by Chris Sherwood and one developer over more than a year, and the repo reportedly reached #1 on GitHub Trending. Sherwood frames it as a free, self-contained way to keep critical information available when connectivity fails.
