DeepSeek says commercialization is fine, but profit maximization is not the goal
Liang says DeepSeek will commercialize, but it does not pursue maximum profit. Low pricing is not a subsidy tactic; it comes from model architecture and compute efficiency. In his view, lower cost means the company can train larger models with the same amount of compute.
He argues that future model competition will be decided in this order: cost first, speed second, user experience third. The transcript also says AI could eventually take a very large share of global GDP, and that trying to claim all of that value may be a losing strategy.
The thread further notes that DeepSeek’s open-source releases should match what the company uses internally, rather than being intentionally weaker versions.
