Liang says DeepSeek is a group of ordinary people trying to do something extraordinary
Liang rejects the idea of a “genius narrative” around DeepSeek. He describes the team as ordinary people trying to build something unusually ambitious, and says that if the team stays stable, DeepSeek can reach AGI.
He also argues that open source, low prices, and not obsessing over short-term gains all increase the chance of success. The core idea is that the company should optimize for the probability of reaching AGI, not for extracting the most value from the current market.
- DeepSeek’s public and internal models should remain aligned.
- Trying to monopolize AI’s future economic upside could backfire.
- The company’s goal is not to become a Tencent or ByteDance clone.
