The author says tool-assisted speedrunners often show mind-blowing creativity, and argues that an AI system able to match that kind of out-of-the-box play still feels far off.

They suggest game speedrunning — especially runs that exploit broken physics — could become a useful RL environment for big labs to use as a hill-climbing playground, potentially inspiring new architectures and learning algorithms.
