ChatGPT Helped a Reddit User Spot a Hidden Mac Malware Infection
FrogginBull · reddit · 2026-07-26
A Reddit user says ChatGPT helped uncover a Mac compromise while they were trying to lower RAM usage for local AI models. The investigation led them to two Apple-looking LaunchDaemons that were actually launching hidden bash scripts from the user Library, and they later traced the infection to a poisoned npm install tied to dev and OCR/PDF tools. They link the stealer to OSX.AtomicStealer and note the malware would have been easy to miss without the AI-assisted inspection.
