Reddit audit says PewDiePie’s Odysseus launched from a 271k-line root commit with hidden MiniMax traces
MikeBirdTech · x · 2026-07-26
A long Reddit post alleges that PewDiePie’s Odysseus repository may not have been built the way its launch story suggested.
Key claims in the audit:
- The public Git history starts with a single parentless mega-commit: 421 files, 271,349 inserted lines, and no incremental development trail.
- The launch video went live only 7 minutes and 20 seconds after that root commit.
- The repository appears to have embedded MiniMax support from the start, with 35 explicit matches across runtime and tooling files.
- Later commits and README edits allegedly shifted the featured model branding from DeepSeek to MiniMax-M2.7.
- The post also says a huge star count later vanished quickly, while GitHub did not publicly explain the event.
The author stops short of proving fraud or hidden authorship, but argues the provenance deserves a serious investigation into whether celebrity trust and GitHub popularity were used to create product legitimacy without corresponding real usage.
