AI must prove it can drive half of GDP growth before AGI matters, author argues

The author argues that AGI or singularity will not matter much until AI can justify its massive spending through real revenue and productivity gains—enough to account for half of GDP growth and half of the S&P 500’s market cap.

They also downplay the OSS battle as relatively minor compared with that economic challenge, and suggest the U.S. government should respond with tax exemptions for AI companies that open-source models on par with Chinese competitors, so application companies can host cheap, high-quality tokens and keep competition strong.
