Satya Nadella and other industry figures are backing a new statement arguing that open-weight models are important for a healthy AI ecosystem.

The post’s quoted take pushes back on a common confusion: open weights are not the same as open source, and nobody is asking closed models like Claude to become open-weight. The real ask, it says, is much narrower — don’t make the open weights produced by others illegal.
