Ben Golub argues that AI is making research generation much easier, but verification is becoming the bottleneck — both for checking whether your own work is correct and for communicating findings credibly.

He cites a poll from an NBER household finance talk suggesting that nearly 60% of academic economists are already “all in” on using AI and agents in their research, while the biggest obstacle they see is the cost of verification. His post frames verification as a central, under-discussed constraint on AI-augmented research.
