The argument
The post argues that the popular humanoid-robot “data flywheel” story is too optimistic: deploy robots, collect data, improve models, sell more robots.
Why it may fail
- Self-driving improved because road traffic is full of uncontrolled novelty: weather, roadworks, cyclists, debris.
- Humanoid deployments are often the opposite: one station, one fixture, one SKU, one pick, same 20-second cycle for months.
- That means fleets can generate huge volumes of nearly identical embodied data rather than the diverse data needed for fast generalization.
The core claim
The post says the loop is real, but the value of the data depends on deployment diversity. In narrow industrial settings, “more robots” may mostly mean “more of the same data.”
