Scientists have achieved a major cancer breakthrough by repurposing the unusual CRISPR enzyme Cas12a2. The enzyme is engineered to detect cancer-linked mutant RNA (such as faulty TP53) and shred the DNA inside only those specific cells, triggering their self-destruction while largely sparing healthy cells.
