A Claude Code user on the Max 20x plan says their 5-hour quota can jump to 100% in about 15 minutes, even during a light session that used only about 41k tokens in total.
Their evidence
- They opened a fresh session and saw the window reset with nearly 5 hours remaining.
- After one short exchange, /usage already showed 10% used.
- Local transcripts and ccusage suggested only about 41k tokens total, with roughly 20k cache reads, 20k cache writes, and 629 output tokens — around $0.25 API-equivalent.
- They ruled out other local processes, cron jobs, cloud routines, and other devices/sessions.
The open question
They ask whether the 1M-context Claude Opus model is charged at a premium multiplier against plan limits, because the observed burn rate seems far too high for the measured token use.
