Claude Code reportedly deletes session history older than 30 days by default
jomi-se · reddit · 2026-07-25
A Reddit user says Claude Code silently deletes sessions older than 30 days by default, making old /resume history disappear without consent.
The screenshot points to the cleanupPeriodDays setting: the default is 30 days, with a minimum of 1, and Claude Code deletes session files and other application data older than that at startup.
The complaint is not about disk cleanup itself, but about the lack of warning or consent. The user argues that session history can be important project context, and that file age is a poor proxy for whether data should be deleted.
