Codex Desktop on Windows spawns 300+ taskkill.exe and freezes the PC
A GitHub issue against openai/codex reports a severe Windows regression: simply cold-launching the unified ChatGPT/Codex desktop app causes system-wide lag and a flood of taskkill.exe and conhost.exe processes.
- Reproducible about 15 seconds after startup, without Computer Use or any shell command
- One snapshot showed 306 live taskkill.exe processes and 320 conhost.exe processes
- Closing the app immediately restored responsiveness
- The report says the problem differs from earlier issues because it starts at app launch, not after prolonged use
