AMD nears a Samsung HBM4 deal for Helios rack servers with 432GB per GPU

AMD is reportedly close to finalizing a Samsung HBM4 contract for Helios, its rack-scale AI server system.
- Helios is described as a single steel rack containing 72 Instinct MI455X GPUs and 18 Epyc Venice CPUs.
- Networking and software are bundled inside the same rack, so customers buy compute by the rack, not as loose components.
- Lisa Su said the deal is “almost closed” when asked in San Francisco.
- The key hardware angle is memory capacity: MI455X carries 432GB per GPU, versus 288GB on Nvidia’s Rubin, about 50% more.
