U.S. lawmakers propose FRONTIER Act for frontier AI audits and incident reporting

A bipartisan group of six U.S. House lawmakers has introduced the FRONTIER Act, a bill aimed at federal oversight of frontier AI systems.

For models trained with more than 10^26 FLOPs, the bill would require:

It also creates a new Under Secretary of Commerce for AI Security. The sponsors are Reps. Jay Obernolte, Lori Trahan, Scott Franklin, Scott Peters, Erin Houchin, and Suhas Subramanyam.
