OcularAudio MCP gives agents local YouTube transcripts and on-demand screenshots
Carbon-B · reddit · 2026-07-25
OcularAudio MCP is a local, open-source Model Context Protocol server and CLI that gives AI agents high-fidelity access to YouTube videos and other media.
What it does
- Pulls metadata, creator chapters, and transcripts in seconds
- Can fetch on-demand video screenshots for code slides or lecture frames
- Works locally with no cloud hosting required
How it works
- Uses HTTP range requests instead of downloading full videos
- Falls back to local faster-whisper when captions are unavailable
- Runs asynchronously to avoid blocking MCP clients
- Can reuse local cookies.txt to bypass rate limits and age gates
- Caches video data locally for near-instant repeat queries
