- The quoted thread argues that once a Chinese model is released open weight, the US government probably should not try to stop people from downloading it.
- It also says concerns about distillation are weak as an IP-theft argument, especially given the hypocrisy around training on copyrighted or pirated data.
- The one area that still looks compelling, in the author’s view, is industrial-scale distillation by large foreign companies as a national-security issue.
