Anthropic launches Claude Opus 5 with frontier-level coding and task performance
Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 5, positioning it as near-frontier intelligence at roughly half the cost per task versus prior expectations. According to the post, the model:
- comes within 0.5% of Fable 5 on CursorBench at about half the cost
- beats Fable 5 on OSWorld at just over one-third the cost
- scores 3× higher than the next-best model on ARC-AGI 3
- more than doubles Opus 4.8 on Frontier-Bench
The price remains unchanged from Opus 4.8 at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. Opus 5 is now the default model for Claude Max and the strongest option on Pro. The launch also highlights improved self-checking behavior in a vision-to-3D pipeline test.
