Yope says it has raised $12.3 million to build a social app that avoids the usual engagement machinery.
- The app has no algorithmic feed and no ads.
- It is positioned as private by default and organized around small groups of real friends.
- The company says it is already near 15 million users, with more than half opening the app 5+ days a week.
- The lead investor is Northzone, an early backer of Spotify and Klarna.
The pitch is that the next social network win may come from being less addictive, not more optimized for screen time.
