Nature Survey: How Researchers View AI Taking Over Scientific Tasks

DeryaTR_ · x · 2026-07-24

Nature recently conducted a reader survey on the boundaries of AI integration in scientific research.

A doctor and healthcare researcher from Brazil shared a highly representative perspective: if AI performs a specific task better, it should replace humans in that task to prioritize patient interests.

However, he emphasized that the core of medicine goes beyond efficiency. AI should act as an augmentation rather than a complete replacement. Human empathy, the human touch in caregiving, curiosity-driven research, the joy of co-creation, and the moral compass guiding health equity remain core values that cannot be easily replaced.
