DeepSeek’s July 24 change is an API name cutoff, not a V4 launch
eyishazyer · x · 2026-07-24
DeepSeek is not launching V4 today.
The post clarifies that July 24 is only the cutoff for retiring the old API names deepseek-chat and deepseek-reasoner. Existing callers must switch to the actual model IDs or they will get errors after the deadline.
- V4 was already introduced as a preview in April.
- DeepSeek’s docs still appear to label it as preview, with no separate formal launch post.
- The only concrete change today is the naming/API cutover, not a new release.
