S. O hÉigeartaigh says the field would benefit from more outside visibility into what happens inside AI labs before something goes wrong, rather than learning only after an incident.
The remark came in an interview about the OpenAI loss-of-control incident, and the broader point is that capability growth is making containment harder, so transparency and oversight may need to improve before the next failure mode appears.
