Codex Desktop on Windows gets stuck after adding a second project folder
diyuanbo · ghdev · 2026-07-24
What happened
A Windows Codex Desktop regression makes the app effectively unusable after adding a second folder to a project. The app shows “Oops, an error has occurred” and stays broken across restarts until the saved .codex state is cleared.
Repro
- Open Codex on Windows
- Create or edit a project
- Add a second folder
- The app enters a persistent error state
- Restarting does not help
- Clearing the .codex directory restores startup
Notes
- The failure happens both during project creation and when editing an existing project.
- The reporter says the issue is a Windows desktop regression in the new multi-folder project feature.
