Huawei Ascend Architecture May Outperform Nvidia in 10T-30T Parameter Models

bookwormengr · x · 2026-07-24

A technical expert points out that as models scale up to 10T-30T parameters, Huawei's Ascend will have a more suitable architecture due to its larger domain size.

During training, the compute exchange ratio between Nvidia and Huawei is about 4:1, but this drops to 2:1 on a memory bandwidth basis (8TB/s vs. 4TB/s). Because Huawei's scale-up world size is significantly larger, it enables more aggressive sharding strategies. The decode throughput gap between Ascend SuperPOD and Nvidia's GB300 is estimated to narrow to a range of 1.3x-1.7x.
