Microsoft’s device ID tracking can undermine VPN privacy on Windows

The post argues that VPNs are much less effective on a closed-source operating system when the platform can track users through a global unique device identifier.
It notes that browser fingerprints such as time zone can also reveal location, and suggests that for serious privacy users, measures like matching the computer’s time zone to the VPN country or even disabling JavaScript are more effective than relying on VPN alone.
