Why agentic AI projects fail quietly in production
A Reddit poster reacts to Gartner’s claim that 40% of agentic AI projects will be canceled by 2027 and says the real failure mode is not dramatic crashes, but systems that keep going on bad data without anyone noticing.
Their main point is that teams often optimize for whether an agent can finish a task once, instead of asking what happens on the 100th run when:
- a tool response is malformed,
- a downstream API times out, or
- the agent confidently proceeds with stale or bad input.
That’s why demo success can create a false sense of readiness: the production version fails silently, and the problem only surfaces days later when numbers look wrong.
They argue the cancellation wave will likely come from teams not designing for quiet failure, not from models suddenly becoming incapable.
