Liang Wenfeng says 16,000 Huawei 950 GPUs are only enough for current-generation training
The quote says Huawei is currently providing about 16,000 Huawei 950 GPUs, which he characterizes as roughly equivalent to 4,000 B-series GPUs—not enough for a next-generation model, only enough for today’s generation.
He argues that China’s AI stack could reach rough parity with foreign models in 1–2 years, or even substitute for them this year in the current paradigm, but says true AGI still requires continuous learning and that domestic hardware may need a few more years to catch up. The bigger bottleneck, he says, is the ecosystem and confidence problem around domestic hardware, though he is optimistic that the capacity constraint should ease within five years.
