OpenAI and Hugging Face Hack Prompts US Lawmakers to Call for Mandatory Safety Testing

In response to recent hacks targeting OpenAI and Hugging Face, Rep. Greg Casar, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, called the situation extremely alarming.
He highlighted that AI is developing rapidly with no real regulations to keep people safe. He urged for regular mandatory independent safety testing, oversight, mandatory disclosure of security incidents, and international cooperation to prevent absolute disaster.
