Figure appears ahead of Optimus on autonomy, but demand for humanoid labor still looks huge
markjeffrey · x · 2026-07-23
The post argues that Figure AI is currently ahead because there are many videos of its robots operating autonomously, while every Optimus appearance so far has looked remote-piloted.
The author says that could simply mean Tesla is holding back a spectacular debut, but it could also mean Optimus still has more catching up to do. Either way, they believe demand for humanoid robot labor is so large that both Optimus and Figure are likely to stay sold out for a long time.
