New pediatrics paper calls for data, governance, and trust infrastructure for AI

A new paper, “Building the Foundations for Trustworthy AI in Pediatrics,” examines what makes AI deployment in pediatrics different and what infrastructure is needed to make it trustworthy.
The authors say pediatrics benefits from AI but also faces unique risks: nonintuitive errors, effects on clinician cognition, limited training data, developmental heterogeneity, and changing patient autonomy. They outline the need for data systems, governance structures, validation frameworks, and public-trust infrastructure, and close with recommendations for clinicians, caregivers, health systems, government, technologists, and academic institutions.
