Search APIs still fail freshness tests for 7-day company monitoring
Unnamed-3891 · reddit · 2026-07-23
A Reddit user says they need a search stack that can take a list of companies and reliably pull news, announcements, and results from the past 7 days, but most options they tried—Exa, Tavily, Serper, Serpbase, Firecrawl, SearXNG and others—performed badly.
Their main complaints are:
- Many search backends do not handle freshness well, or return poor results when freshness is required.
- Google still works far better for one-shot queries like “COMPANYNAME news announcements results.”
- Some APIs force multiple queries or seem heavily cached, which burns credits and degrades relevance.
The post is essentially a practical benchmark request: what are people using for reliable, recent web search, and how are they making it usable for automation?
