OpenAI is moving into data-center design
The WSJ reports that OpenAI has raised its projected compute spend to about $750B through 2030, up from roughly $600B earlier this year. The jump reflects new cloud agreements as the company races to secure enough capacity to build and run its models.
The reported Georgia project, Project Camellia, would start with a $20B investment. OpenAI has reportedly contracted for 3.2 gigawatts of power to be delivered from 2028 to 2032, and will act as a lead designer and developer for the first time. It has also hired former xAI Colossus leaders Brent Mayo and Uday Ruddarraju to oversee infrastructure delivery.
