Microsoft releases Mage-Flow, a 4B image generation and editing stack
Microsoft’s new Mage-Flow family is a compact 4B-scale system for text-to-image generation and instruction-based image editing.
- It combines two co-designed components: Mage-VAE and NR-MMDiT.
- The system supports native-resolution generation from 512 to 2048 on any aspect ratio, including extreme formats like 4:1.
- Microsoft says the family is designed to stay fast and memory-light, with training optimizations cutting per-step time from 1.93s to 0.78s.
- The release includes Base, RL-aligned, and 4-step Turbo variants for both generation and editing.
- On a single A100 at 1024², the Turbo models are reported to run at 0.59s/image for generation and 1.02s/edit for editing.
