MIT paper introduces neural transparency so users can preview chatbot responses

MIT Media Lab says a paper headed for IUI 2026 introduces “neural transparency”, a tool that lets users see how a chatbot may respond before they ever start chatting.

The researchers say the accompanying user study explains why the stakes are high and explores what a genuinely transparent AI experience could look like in the future.
