MCP looks cool in demos, but the real test is whether it changes revenue

A Reddit post argues that MCP is a classic case of developers solving problems developers created.

The author says the demos look impressive when an assistant can pull data from Notion, Calendar, and Slack through MCP, but that should not be confused with business value. In their example, the real bottleneck was onboarding taking three weeks, not lack of interoperability.

Where MCP actually helps

The test, they argue, is simple: does it make customers get results faster or with less effort? If MCP only makes demos cooler, it is solving a problem nobody should prioritize before fixing the actual leak in the business.
