Yann LeCun reposts a thread arguing that closed-source safeguards and gated access to powerful cybersecurity tools leave many companies and open-source projects unprotected.
The quoted Hugging Face note says the incident they referenced reinforced the case for wider access to capable open-weight models in cyber defense, because defenders need broad access when frontier models are used offensively inside an infrastructure.
The overall argument is that security tools should not be locked behind limited access, and that openness gives independent defenders a better chance to respond.
