A user says ChatGPT 5.5 keeps planning the task instead of writing it

ChatGPT 5.5 is being described as over-planning instead of drafting
A user says that in the last couple of days, ChatGPT has developed a very specific pattern when asked to refine a document:
- it praises the idea heavily,
- keeps expanding the scope,
- and repeatedly avoids producing the actual draft.
They tried to use it to clean up a simple email, but after 53 prompts it was still narrating its process, proposing bigger deliverables, and turning the request into a much larger project — complete with appendices, timelines, fact-check lists, audio scripts, and delivery scripts. They say it even framed the email as something like a legacy document.
By contrast, the same draft given to Claude produced a cleaned-up final version in one prompt.
The post is basically a strong anecdotal complaint that ChatGPT is over-optimizing and meta-planning while Claude stayed task-focused.
