Google removes left-panel pinning for Gems, frustrating power users

A user says Google removed the option to pin Gems to the left panel, forcing them to open the Gems menu every time they want to use a custom Gem.
The post is a simple product-UX complaint asking whether there is a workaround, and how others are using Gems after the UI change.
